Hales Corners: An Old Black Walnut Gets New Life with Urban Wood Lab

Updated: Nov 20, 2020

This towering Black Walnut shaded our customers' house in Hales Corners for many years. The 125-year-old tree was a cherished part of their landscape, and when it was time for it to go, Anne and J.R. worked with The Urban Wood Lab Store to turn it into thick, gorgeous walnut slabs. Hoppe Tree Service handled removal of the huge tree and transported the trunk to the Urban Wood Lab.

The Urban Wood Lab Store took care of milling, kiln-drying and skip-surfacing. Anne plans to craft her slabs into a pair of distinctive end tables for her home. Read more about our full-circle process for turning local urban trees into beautiful, sustainable wood products.

The Urban Wood Lab has a wide selection of live-edge slabs from urban trees like these, in walnut, oak, maple, elm, ash and many more species. Shop our inventory online, or stop in today!
